Towers

In this project my job was to create three different towers starting from the original tower to upgraded versions of it. I first had to model the base of the tower and the create 3 different tops each with unique features but share the same similar theme.

My limit was however was trying to stay under a 1500 tri count which seems simple at first but once you get to the third tower gets a bit tricky. The models needed to be UV’ed as well and also say the same UV map space.

Once the modeling and the UV process was done I had to simply duplicate them and ID them so it could be really simple to texture them in Substance Painter. Once I have finished the ID process I combined the low poly models together and exported them into Substance Painter as well as the ID models.

My theme for these models was based off the cyber towers that was shown in the project with a mix of a toy theme to it. The colors for this tower was simple and not too complex with designs that a child interested in space would love.

After the texture process was done I simply needed to bake the lighting into the textures and export them into Unity along with the low poly models. I then had to take a screenshot of the fully rendered scene in Unity to finish up my project as well as take a 45 degree angle of each tower.

I have run into a few problems throughout the whole process of this Tower Project.

In Maya I have ran into trouble when my tri count went over the minimum requirement. After awhile I realized that there was some unnecessary edges and vertices on my models that I did not need and that solved the problem.

Finally in Substance Painter the textures have appeared too blurry when I started to paint them onto the towers. I have solved this issue by increasing the resolution higher than 512 and when I was finished exporting it as a 512 texture map. The lighting still showed up unnatural when baked onto my base color texture sheet but I ended up not figuring out why in the end.
