Race To The Joker
-Battle against your friend as you both try to take down each other’s defenses on a race to get each other’s Joker. With a deck of cards, keep drawing from it to until you get pairs to destroy your opponent’s defense, 3 cards in a row to build up your own defense, or use the godly Ace card which could negate any move that your opponent makes on you! It is a quick and easy game that is intended for students who are just bored during school breaks and just want to have a quick game to pass away the time.
- During our thinking process we didn’t work on our brainstorm for too long when it comes to making some game ideas. We only thought of two ideas and decided to go with mines mostly because we didn’t spend enough time going over more. This forced us to go with a simple game concept from Poker which caused a lot of time consumption when transforming that idea into a new game. During our play testing we managed to get by just explaining the rules to the players vocally than just printing out the rules and showing to them which caused some hiccups when explaining the rules. Shodai had trouble explaining the rules to the players mostly because he mainly relied on the paper to do the explaining for him. I managed to get by explaining the rules to the players but also missed out one game mechanic that slipped my mind.
-Amazingly, however, that caused the game to be more fun without the game mechanic because a lot of positive reviews were given that the flow of the game is good and the rules are fair for each player, meaning that if we were to add in the rule that made the players overpowered for one turn it would have ruined the flow for the game so we decided to take it out. Since we decided to add in some mechanics of poker into our game this made it so we could focus on making that idea transform into a huge mechanic into our game. We kept adding new and more rules and mechanics into those mechanics until it was considered to be a game other than poker. We also had a lot of time left over to polish those rules and mechanics and play test it ourselves a couple of times so it could have a smooth flow into the game and balanced rule that is fair for both players. This resulted into making a new concept that wasn’t too complex but it was enough for players who are currently students in any grade level understand the mechanics of the game easily.
-We would definitely change the way we brainstorm our ideas so we could have more of a variety next time we try to come up with some game ideas, at least 15-20 minutes max. We would also print out the rules next time so it would be easier for us to explain it to the players and so we won’t miss any game mechanics that we cannot remember on the top of our heads. We will also allow ourselves more time to polish some game mechanics and rules since it worked out for us so well in this game that we have created. We will also mainly focus on combining some game mechanics from many different games and try combining all of those mechanics into our own game if we cannot come up with any new game mechanics during the time limit that we have set for ourselves.
