Hello and welcome to our game
the Deadly Poke. This was made with my Group 1 group with Lauren and Marquies
and the game is about you and your teammate surviving massive hordes of mosquitoes
and try to not get bit by them or else you will get infected by the Zika Virus.
To defeat the mosquitoes, one must either gain the flamethrower to burn them
all down or face head on with their boss to get rid of the mosquitoes to win
the game. This game is meant for players in their teen years and is just
looking to have some mindless fun and just relax from dealing with school or
solving some hard puzzle games that they have done before. Everyone within our
group has did their part when it came to competing our tasks but a few things
we struggled with is how we worked with the prototype and how we didn’t ask too
many questions to our playtesters which caused us to get a lot of broad good
reviews which was great but we felt that it decreases the chances of our game
having the potential to be even more fun than it was before.
When it came to fixing the problems, we had
with the game we decided to take the approach of fixing it during the play
testing which caused some confusion within the group and with the playtesters. We
did save time by fixing it during the game but in the process, we broke the
impact that the game is supposed to have on the player which is for them to
tense up when they are low on ammo or to feel excited when they are going to
the next level. When it came to the end
of the playtesting process we realized that we were not asking to many
questions to our playtesters which made us get broad feedback on our game which
was bad for us. We managed to ask a lot of questions on a few people but
compare that to the amount of playtesters that we have it isn’t that much of a
lot of feedback. We realized what we did wrong in our first playtest so we
decided to meet with each other and talk about what we could improve on with
our game.
Marquies was the one who is the designer in our group so he decided
to focus on how he could improve the board so it could be much easier to move the
mosquitoes around without hassle and Lauren and I decided to help with that by
making the base of the stick tougher so it won’t bend. After we finished making
the adjustments we feel we did a good job with improving the mechanic of the
game greatly but just gave it a few playtests on our own. We didn’t have the
time to playtest the game fully so because of that the players during the
playtest process spotted some obvious mistakes again during the gameplay. What
I would change about my process going forward is to have some more
communication with my team members and to also ask more questions to my fellow
playtesters. I would also like to add group meetings where we meet with our
group members at least 2 or 3 times out of class time to work on specific
problems that we need to work on so that way we could catch the obvious
mistakes we have.
